Well we have had enough with the rain! So after getting up and having pancakes and sausage for breakfast - we come up with the game plan for the day. We pack a picnic lunch to eat at the beach. Then since we are supposed to get rain in the afternoon we are planning on going swimming at a local hotel.
Well - picnic plans were changed because IT WAS HIGH TIDE. We ate in the car and watched the surf. After we ate - the tide was starting to go out - so we were able to take a quick stroll on the beach. Check out the huge clam Mikayla found. We threw it back into the ocean - hoping the seagulls wouldn't get it!
After our walk IN the ocean - we headed to the Bellevue by the Sea for swimming. While the kids swam - Kathy caught up on some of her Statistics homework. After a couple hours the kids decided they had had enough swimming. We returned to the house - just long enough to change - and Kathy rounded everyone up in the car to head on a mystery trip.
We drove North. We arrived at this beach town. We parked on Main Street and walked to the Ocean. On the way down we stopped and had some of Kathy's favorites - Pier French Fries....(she said they were the best - and they WERE!).....Although the pier was not opened yet - we were able to see how it goes out over the water. We saw the beach. Then we went to the Arcade! We had sooo much fun playing games from Guitar Hero, to Haunted House, to In the Money, to Ski Ball. It was alot of fun. Walking back to the car - Kathy stopped to get up another of her favorites from growing up - a piece of pizza from Lisa's pizza. Then Kathy drove us to show us the house they stayed in every year when she was our age.
We drove back home. After a steak dinner we watched - the Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
Time for bed - tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful and we plan on spending it on the beach!

Today the King family headed south to Ogunquit. Ogunquit was thought to be named by the Abenaki as "place of waves", or by the Algonquins as "beautiful place by the sea". And we soon found it - it lives up to its name. There are beautiful victorian hotels, B&B, motels, etc. The beach is @3.5 miles long.
But by far our favorite location is Perkins Cove. Perkins Cove is like this quaint little fishing community. But more importantly it is one of the entrances to Marginal Way. Marginal Way is this incredible walkway along the cliffs around the ocean. The walk is about 1.4 miles. There are benchs every couple hundred feet - 1) so you can take a break or 2) you can just sit and relax and enjoy the sights and sounds. There are also rocks for the kids to climb on. Great photo ops. We were even able to watch some surfers! I think by far this is definately my FAVORITE location so far.
After walking Marginal Way we headed into Perkins Cove and the kids got a well deserved treat of homemade fudge. We walked around the little center, and it started pouring (again). We decided to head back towards home. The boys asked to go to Remys, and then we stopped in to rent 2 movies at RedBox (got love those $1 movies)
We returned home and after a pork chop dinner, we watched Madagascar 2 and 7 Pounds. Everyone went to bed - tuckered out from the days hike.

Trivia - There is a famous theater in the town we visited today...What is its name and when did it open?

Today was such a blue day for the King family....Not only were we coping with the Thurlow (and Bill) family leaving.....it POURED all day. Nothing is worse than being at the beach with it POURING ALL DAY!

All of this really bummed everyone out. We decided to try a little retail therapy to see if that would help...We headed in the car for the Maine Mall. Mimi bought some peuple jeans, black and orange nailpolish. Nick bought an Axel Rose hat and a Civil War video game. Zack bougt a Transformer (Robots in disguise) and a Ben 100 toy.

Driving back to the house - eveyone was still down - so we decided to go to the movies. We saw 17 again starring Zac Effron. It was really good.

Aafter the movie we headed back to the house. After dinner we watched Biggest Loser and a few other shows before retiring for the evening.

Hopefully tomorrow gray skies will clear up - so we can put on our happy faces again!

Happy Patriots Day!
This morning Jen and Bill had decided that they wanted to go down to Wells Beach to watch the sunrise. I was laying in bed and I heard Lisa and Bill up downstairs and heard them coming to get Jen up....I didn't think anything of it until I had this wierd sense - I rolled over = and they were in my room with Lisa hovering over my bed....she forgot which room they were in and was trying to figure out where Jen was - Well needless to say - I had trouble going back to sleep after them scaring me to death. Anyway - Jen and Bill got a ride from Lisa to the beach. They morning was clear - and the sunrise was beautiful. Lisa continued a little further down the road - and watched the sunset - and took a photo of 3 does who posed for her! They returned to the house. After a hearty breakfast of French Toast and Bacon....and after getting 9 people showered and dressed - (When especially 2 Guys (not naming any names here - okay Dave and Nick) took 3 hour showers!) We finally made out of the house.

We headed up to Kennebunkport. Kennebunkport has these feeling of days gone by. The beautiful houses are amazing. Dock Square has these great little boutiques and art galleries, shops and restaurants. Horse Drawn Carriage rides are seen on the roads.

Of course one of the main points of interest is on Parson's Way headed to Walker's Point which is the summer residence for former President George Bush. Some of the pictures we took were on this little rocky area just past the house!

From there we took a ride - in quest of LOBSTER! (YUM)

After lunch - Kathy, Lisa, Mimi and Mel - went to run some errands - and made at stop at Renys....and as the sign out front says - "It's a Maine Adventure!" You never know what you are going to find in there!. We then decided to take a ride down to Nubble Light (since the Thurlows didn't get to visit it!) The kids had a great time climbing all over the rocks Kathy played photographer and was taking shots left and right (even laying on her stomach to get the shot!)

We drove back via Shore Road - so we could all dream about living in one of the beautiful mansions and a quick drive by Perkin's Cove.

Back at the house - we had an incredible feast - Kathy made homemade Spaghetti and Meatballs and Garlic Bread for the land lubber eaters. Lisa made - are you ready for this - Steamers, Shrimp Cocktail, Lobster, and Rice for the seafood eaters! Delicious!!!

After we were stuffed - we decided to take a ride to the beach to burn off some energy. Mel talked to Matt and he was going to meet us there....But when we got there - high tide was starting to come in, it was about 40 degrees and an incredible cold wind was blowing, and it was 8 so it was getting late! Needless to say we only spent about 35 minutes there!

We headed back to the house - and the kids walked over to Jakes for ice cream with Lisa. (I don't know how they could eat anymore!) (Lisa stole a bite of Nick's and it went up her nose - that will teach her to steal some!)

After the kids played a few games - they finally convinced Bill to try Karaoke Revolution on the PlayStation 2. Well we have a new Karaoke star on our hands - check out the video - although the lighting was bad - you can still hear him singing! Then Bill painted Jen's nails - they came out beautifully.

After singing our hearts out - we headed to bed - after a long fun day. Tomorrow the Thurlow clan (and Bill) head home :( We will miss them since we all had such a great time - Bill it was so much fun getting to know you better! I hope you had as great a time as the King Family did. Thurlows we LOVE you guys and Love vacationing with you!

(Oh yeah - everyone record Live with Regis and Kelly on Wednesday - April 22nd. The Thurlows are headed to NYC with tickets to the show!

Happy Sunday
After everyone gets up and enjoys some homemade Blueberry, chocolate chip or Apple cinnamon Muffins - and everyone showers - the King Family decides to do some exploring before our overnight guests arrive.
We head South down Rt 1.

Our mission is just to scout out what we would like to ezplore more this coming week. Ogunquit Beach we decide would be a great place to fly a kite one day. We decide we would like to go back to Perkins Cove and walk Marginal Way.
On our drive - we go by all these beautiful huge houses along the coast. Nick tell us he is going to own one when he gets older (so we'll all have some place to come spend the summers!) He also tells us he wants to get married here on the beach (so we better all save our money!)

We travel down to Nubble Lighthouse at Cape Neddick. Nubble Light is one of the worlds most photographed Lighthouse in the world. It was built in 1879. It stands 41 feet tall and is constructed of cast iron plates lined inside with bricks. Nubble Light emits a red flashing light which can be seen 88 feet above the ocean. The Lighthouse sits just off the coast on a tiny rocky island - known as a Nubble - which is where the Lighthouse gets its name. The only way to get to it is either by boat or by the little basket that kind of resembles a ski lift and you are pulled across.

On the way back to the house we stop in the center of Ogunquit and visit the little Gift Shops, bakery and candy store in the center. We head back to the house to wait for our guests. While we are waiting we have a game of WAR. The prize - the last can of Coke - and the winner .........Mikayla
Next we play Old Maid - and Go Fish - winner - Nicholas. Finally Nick and Mikayla teach mom a game called President (which I think they made up!) But guess who won.......Mom.....Mikayla is neutral......and Nick is Twinkee Boy!

Our guests arrive - Uncle Dave, Aunt Lisa, Jenny, Mel and Bill! After unpacking - Kathy and all the kids head to beach while Lisa and Dave head to the store. The kids have fun running, digging, walking in the water - and finally of course - feeding the seagulls.

We have dinner. Bill, Nick and Zack have a great time hanging out. Mimi, Mel and Jenny decorate the girls room. While the adults just hand out. We play some cards - Mel won $7 in Pass the Ace. We play a very loud game of Pit (I got 2, I got 2, I got 2)

Finally we decide to head to bed (Jenny and Bill are going to the beach for sunrise at 510am) See you tomorrow.

April 18, 2009

Well we had so much fun last year - WE'RE BACK!
We have decided as a family to blog our upcoming vacations - and bring you all along with us!
Well we got a little late of a start today since Nick and Mikayla were bowling in the Mass State Youth Bowling Championship Tournament - Mikayla had a 111 game!!! Yeah Mimi!
After they got home we got in the car and headed North.....our destination - Maine - the way life should be! (at least according to the signs)
We rented this house in Wells, Maine - 1400 sq ft, 4 bedrooms - perfect for us.
This vacation is completely about R&R - with a little fun thrown in!
So after arriving at the house - unpacking - and putting everything away - we decided to have some fun.....we head for the beach - Yes I said the beach!
Zachary was very upset because he really wanted to go swimming - but we convinced him that today was not the day - since we had other errands to run. But he did get to build a sand castle and volcano. Mimi found some drift she wanted to bring home. Nick did a polar bear swim. But by far - EVERYONE's favorite adventure - was feeding the seagulls. Now those of you who don't know it - Maine seagulls are different than Massachusetts seagulls. The Maine seagulls will take the food RIGHT out of your hand....but when they swarm all around you it can be a little intimidating! But great photo ops
We then hit Dollar tree, Hannafords for a few quick errands
Back at the house - after tacos for dinner - Mom and Mimi made muffins for tomorrows breakfast.
We watched Twilight - great movie.
Everyone is now getting ready for bed - dreaming about tomorrows adventure!
Trivia contest - Our house in SPencer, MA - is EXACTLY how far from Wells, ME?
Reply back with your answer - closest answer will win a prize from Maine! - Good Luck
See you tomorrow - check out the photos and videos!
